Brief Biography
Ashish Kumar is an Associate Professor and Consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, and associated Ganga Ram Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (GRIPMER), New Delhi, India. Previously he worked as an Associate Professor of Hepatology at the Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi, India. He completed his Gastroenterology training from the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, India in 2004. Subsequently, under the mentorship of Prof Shiv Kumar Sarin he did Senior Research Associateship in Hepatology and worked in his unit for 5 years. His research areas include mainly portal hypertension, acute-on-chronic-liver failure, and stem cells. He has over fifty publications in international journals, including Gastroenterology, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Gut. He was one of the faculty members of the recent Baveno conference on portal hypertension, and also of many consensus conferences by APASL on portal hypertension. He is currently working on developing a national consensus on treatment of liver cancer under aegis of INASL.

1. Paper Selected for Plenary Presentation at the APDW 2008, New Delhi, India entitled “Endoscopic variceal ligation plus propranolol and isosorbide mononitrate versus endoscopic variceal ligation alone for secondary prophylaxis of variceal bleeding: a large prospective randomized controlled trial”
 
2. Young Investigator Award at the APASL 2008, Seoul, Korea, for the paper entitled “Decompensation by variceal bleed and ascites has similar portal hemodynamics in cirrhosis.”
 
3. Best Paper Award at the plenary session of ISG-INASL 2007, Mumbai, India, for the paper entitled “Endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) plus propranolol (P) and isosorbide mononitrate (ISMN) versus endoscopic variceal ligation alone in secondary prophylaxis of variceal bleeding: A prospective randomized controlled trial.”
 
4. Hepatology 360 Award Finalist at the Hepatology Live 2012 Conference held on 11th  to 13th May 2012 at Vienna, Austria for the research work entitled “Adrenal insufficiency predicts early mortality in patients with cirrhosis”.
